Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the team access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
